Baked apples are a great breakfast dish. If you prepare them in advance, all you have to do is pop them in the oven in the morning. White famer’s cheese is a good source of calcium and protein. Add condensed milk and nuts to it, and everyone will love the filling. The recipe was sent by Kateryna Akumenko from the Ukrainian organization Changers.
Ingredients:
- 4 apples
- 200-250 g white farmer’s cheese (or cottage cheese)
- 2 tablespoons condensed milk or honey
- 2 tablespoons chopped walnuts or other nuts
Preparation:
- Make the filling – combine the cheese curd with condensed milk or honey and chopped nuts.
- Wash the apples. Cut off a ‘cap’ from each fruit. Use a small knife to remove the core of the apple and stuff with the filling.
- Bake in the oven at 180 degrees C for about 20 minutes, until the apples are tender. Baking time may vary depending on the apple variety and oven capacity. Serve warm or cold, sprinkled with icing sugar.
