On Wednesday, 6 May a call will be launched for sectoral projects in the Active Citizens Fund – National Programme. Funding of between EUR 25 000 and 125 000 is available for organisations that work to develop the social organisation and civic movement sector on a nationwide level, in particular regions or sectors. Project outlines must be submitted by 30 June. The budget for the call is EUR 5 m.
Grants can be obtained for five types of activities: providing services and organising other capacity-building activities for social organisations and civic movements; monitoring of the law and advocacy for rights and interests; increasing public awareness of the part played and the significance of the civic sector and need to become involved in supporting it; research, analyses, opinions, and expert assessments. The measures taken cannot be focused on improving the situation of individual organisations or narrowly defined interest groups, and the benefits and of the projects being implemented should be available for the broadest possible range of civic sector groups. The entities that can apply for grants of between EUR 25 000 and 125 000 include foundations, associations, social cooperatives, and rural housewife circles. A grant may be no more than 90% of the total costs of the project. A minimum of half of the required 10% contribution must be a financial contribution.
Any organisation applying for a grant for project activities may also apply for up to EUR 12 500 in addition, for capacity building: investing in team-building, improving skills, raising funds for its activities, and improving management and communication – Lidia Kuczmierowska of the Academy of Civil Organizations Foundation, responsible for running the call for projects, says. Applicants can also enter into cooperation with Donor State (Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein) organisations, and in such cases an additional grant is available – Kuczmierowska adds.

The Active Citizens Fund – National Programme is financed by the EEA Financial Mechanism. This is non-returnable aid provided by Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway for new EU members. In Poland, the Programme is run by a consortium of three organisations, which are the Stefan Batory Foundation (consortium leader), the Shipyard Foundation, and the Academy of Civic Organizations Foundation (FAOO).
