We engaged 20 seniors in the active establishment of the Municipal Senior Club in Wierzbica. Previously, the elderly in this municipality indicated that the club’s program did not meet their needs. They also reported a lack of leaders among them who had knowledge about civic activities and communication with the municipal authorities.
Our goal was to make the club more active and to enable its members to have a say in its decisions. As part of the project, we provided training for selected seniors on topics related to social participation, conducting social initiatives, communicating with municipal authorities, and advocating for their rights. They became leaders who collected ideas and initiatives from other seniors in the region. Additionally, we carried out 20 social actions for the benefit of the elderly in our municipality, such as sending greeting cards from one senior to another during the pre-holiday period, planting shrubs, lavender, and fruit trees, hanging bird feeders, and promoting reading among children.
According to the evaluation surveys, the project participants increased their knowledge in areas related to participation, volunteering, and fundraising. The seniors showed great dedication and enthusiasm in carrying out activities related to the establishment of the Municipal Senior Club.
