According to the diagnostic workshops conducted among young people from Silesia Voivodeship, only between five and 20% is engaged in public life. The reason for this situation is primarily a low level of interest in public affairs, preoccupation with the social media and online and digital entertainment, as well as a lack of positive examples of civic engagement. We would like to address these problems by implementing a project in several municipalities of Żywiecki District, an area we have been working in for many years and where we know local organizations, as well the local youth. We would like to involve the young people in environmental activism as the Żywiecki region is threatened by drought, forest cutting, and air pollution.
We will organize workshops during which individuals between 15 and 29 years old will be able to develop their leadership skills pertaining to promotion strategies and social campaigns, designing simple projects and their implementation. The youth will verify their skills through organizing eco-campaigns and initiatives for their local communities. Participants will organize Oxford debates on ecology, expanding their knowledge and skills relating to public speaking and creating an opening for an expanded public debate. Finally, we will organize an event for the media, local government, and local NGOs. During the event we will show films from eco-initiatives by our participants and the youth will deliver a brief speech on the leadership of young people and their work for the environment protection.
